In partnership with the Institut Français of Cameroon, Espace Culturel Gacha and Jean-Félicien Gacha Foundation offer an 6 weeks itinerant residency for writers in Cameroun during spring 2020, partly in our solidarity guest house: Villa Boutanga.

In partnership with the Institut Français of Cameroon,  Espace Culturel Gacha and  Jean-Félicien Gacha Foundation offer an 6 weeks itinerant residency for writers in Cameroun during spring 2020, partly in our solidarity guest house: Villa Boutanga.

As part of its activities promoting the French language and culture, the Institut Français of Cameroon in partnership with the Jean-Félicien Gacha Foundation and the Espace Culturel Gacha propose to host an author in itinerant residency for six weeks from March 1st to April 15th, 2020.

This residency is intended for French-speaking authors, writers, essayists, playwrights or illustrators, having a writing project whose storyline takes place in Cameroon.

The selected author will be in residence in two places:

1.The Jean-Félicien Gacha Foundation, located in Bangoulap, in the heart of the Bamileke Mountains of western Cameroon.

Reception conditions: Full accommodation in a suite at Villa Boutanga, Jean-Félicien Gacha Foundation guesthouse. Internet connection available

2.The Institut Français of Cameroon, in Yaounde. Conditions:

Hotel accommodation (single room). Workspace with Internet connection available

During his stay, the author must remain available and partake in the structure activities that welcome him (one meeting and two writing workshops for each site).

Submission of applications until October 10, 2019 included Announcement of results early November 2019. Residency from March 1 to April 15, 2020

Practical terms and conditions:

In Cameroon

The Institut Français of Cameroon, the Jean-Félicien Gacha Foundation and the Espace Culturel Gacha are responsible for international flight tickets, accommodation, internal travel, and a sum allowance of 980 000 FCFA (about 1500 euros).

Eligibility requirements and application submissions:

The candidate must:

  • Being a francophone living outside Cameroon
  • Being a confirmed author and having already published at least one work on a publisher’s account or having been published via professional distribution channels.
  • Having a project whose storyline takes place in Cameroon
  • Be free from any other commitment during the period of stay

and must include:

  • A resume with photo,
  • A writing project.
  • A cover letter for the residency.
